What Is the Hotshot CDL Prep Hub?

A specialized program for drivers who already own or operate a hotshot truck and need CDL licensing without the cost and hassle of traveling to a traditional school.

Train in Your Own Rig

No need to rent or borrow equipment. We conduct all behind-the-wheel training and pre-trip inspections using your hotshot truck, trailer, and current setup.

50-State DMV Eligibility

Our training and certificates satisfy road-test eligibility requirements in all 50 states. We know the variance in state DMV rules and guide you to compliance wherever you are licensed.

Onsite ELD Compliance

We verify your Electronic Logging Device (ELD) setup for FMCSA compliance. Hours-of-service logs, device certification, and data-transfer readiness — checked on-site before your road test.

Open Trailer Operations

Hotshot trucking runs on open flatbed and gooseneck trailers. We train you on the real-world securement, inspection, and handling skills that keep you DOT-compliant and safe on every haul.

Cargo Securement & Tie-Downs

Learn FMCSA cargo securement rules (49 CFR Part 393). We cover working load limits (WLL), aggregate WLL requirements, proper chain and strap placement, edge protection, and how to calculate the right number of tie-downs for your open deck load.

Open Trailer Pre-Trip Inspection

Master the CDL pre-trip for open trailers: deck and frame integrity, suspension and axle checks, brake lights and wiring, hitch and coupler inspection, ramp condition, and proper flagging/marking for oversized loads on an open deck.

Weight Distribution & Loading

Understand tongue weight, axle weight limits, and proper load placement over the axles on your open gooseneck or bumper-pull trailer. We train you to avoid overload violations and dangerous sway on hotshot runs.

Open Trailer Skills Covered in Our Onsite Training

  • Gooseneck and bumper-pull coupling/uncoupling
  • Proper use of binders, chains, ratchet straps, and winches
  • Working Load Limit (WLL) and Aggregate WLL calculations
  • DOT cargo securement compliance for open decks
  • Brake, lighting, and wire-harness inspection routines
  • Oversize load flagging, marking, and permit awareness
  • Tongue weight and axle weight balance
  • Backing and maneuvering with long open trailers

Onsite ELD Device Compliance Check

Your Electronic Logging Device must be FMCSA-registered and properly configured. We verify everything on-site so there are no surprises at inspection or road test.

Registered ELD Verification

We confirm your ELD is listed on the FMCSA Registered ELDs list and firmware is up to date.

Hours-of-Service Audit

Review your logs for 8/70 or 7/60 rule compliance, reset periods, and driver duty status accuracy.

Data Transfer & Reporting

Test local and telematics data transfer to ensure your device can produce logs on demand for DOT inspections.
